Description

In this #1 national bestseller, master storyteller Stephen King, writing as Richard Bachman, tells the tale of the contestants of a grueling walking competition where there can only be one winner—the one that survives.

Against the wishes of his mother, sixteen-year-old Ray Garraty is about to compete in the annual grueling match of stamina and wits known as the Long Walk. One hundred boys must keep a steady pace of four miles per hour without ever stopping...with the winner being awarded “The Prize”—anything he wants for the rest of his life. But, as part of this national tournament that sweeps through a dystopian America year after year, there are some harsh rules that Garraty and ninety-nine others must adhere to in order to beat out the rest. There is no finish line—the winner is the last man standing. Contestants cannot receive any outside aid whatsoever. Slow down under the speed limit and you’re given a warning. Three warnings and you’re out of the game—permanently...

Only King could come up with this bazar story .I kept thinking more than one would be standing when said an done , no maybe the winner was the loser in all of this . Great read !!

Stephen King once again proves that generative AI tools such as ChatGPT can produce more exciting works of fiction. Like all his stories, the long walk is dry, talentless, and reads like it’s written by a depressed teenager for a creative writing class.

Stephen King kills it again, great book. Slow build but it helps you go “insane” with the characters!

While the novel is pretty good overall there are several issues needed to be discussed. The novel is severely outdated which big problem sometimes. The novel is slow as well, which makes it drag and dry. Other than that a clear page turner and Classic.

I love Stephen King, don’t get me wrong, but this was just kind of mediocre. I predicted what was going to happen about 3 chapters from the end. Overall not a bad read, has a good message, just not my PERFECT book

Riveting, simple character study. King at his best (as Bachman).

Seriously one of the best books I have ever read, some raw emotion and some of the best writing I have ever seen.
  • Interesting concept, poor execution

As a King fan, I have to be brutally honest: it’s not even close to his best. The Long Walk delivers in monotony and poorly developed character relations. It’s difficult to get invested in characters and even more difficult to continue reading. The plot and ending is easy enough to decipher from chapter two, and the ‘big twist’ is a two or three paragraph insertion that feels like an after thought. However, if you make it to the end of this short story turned novel, you will be highly disappointed by its climax and ending, leaving the reader unfulfilled. Read if free.

I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This book was a great and VERY intense read! The only thing I didn’t really understand was the ending — it left me a bit confused. I highly recommend reading this if you’re a fan of Stephen King and/or these types of books.
