Description

The grass is always greener on your sister’s side of the fence…

Divorce left Harper Szymanski with a name no one can spell, a house she can't afford and a teenage daughter who's pulling away. With her fledgling virtual-assistant business, she's scrambling to maintain her overbearing mother’s ridiculous Susie Homemaker standards and still pay the bills, thanks to clients like Lucas, the annoying playboy cop who claims he hangs around for Harper's fresh-baked cookies.

Spending half her life in school hasn't prepared Dr. Stacey Bloom for her most daunting challenge—motherhood. She didn't inherit the nurturing gene like Harper and is in deep denial that a baby is coming. Worse, her mother will be horrified to learn that Stacey's husband plans to be a stay-at-home dad…assuming Stacey can first find the courage to tell Mom she's already six months pregnant.

Separately they may be a mess, but together Harper and Stacey can survive anything—their indomitable mother, overwhelming maternity stores and ex’s weddings. Sisters Like Us is a delightful look at sisters, mothers and daughters in today’s fast-paced world, told with Susan Mallery’s trademark warmth and humor.

Don't miss The Summer Getaway by Susan Mallery where one woman discovers the beauty in chaos in a poignant and heartwarming story about the threads that hold family together.

I admit getting into women's fiction books is hard for me since my preference is romance. With some of my authors branching out I have broadened my horizons a bit, and I have to say I am happy I did. Sisters Like Us is a fabulous book, it'll make you laugh, cry, and even want to scream. There are characters that you'll hate, that you'll love, and yet others you will try to figure out. Watching how, over the course of a few months, the various characters grow was an adventure. I honestly believe this is one of Susan Mallery's best books and as each one of the Mischief Bay stories is a stand-alone you don't have to catch up.

I am sad to see this series end...or did it? I love her character development and the plot is not always as predictable as you would think. Some verbiage is repetitive and I didn’t care for that, but I do enjoy the author and look forward to her next book.

Sisters Like Us, is the fourth Mischief Bay installmemt from Susan Mallery, is a thoroughly enjoyable women’s fiction novel. I found myself identifying with parts of each character. Sisters Harper and Stacey, daughter Becca, mother Bunny, and even Lucas, the main male character. I also loved the pets involved in the story. I read this book almost straight through during a winter snowstorm. Another winner from Susan Mallery.

I love visiting Mischief Bay and this was no exception. In this story you meet Harper , her mother Bunny, her sister Stacey and her teenage daughter Becca. Then you have the main man, Lucas. They are all going through their own difficulties. Harper is recently divorced trying to run her virtual assistant company while raising her teenage daughter. Harper is also perceived as Martha Stewart, always having everything perfect the holidays. It will have you laughing out loud. Stacey's number one focus, is her job. But now she has a secret that she is keeping from her mother, she is six months pregnant. Stacey has never been the nurturing type. In fact her husband is going to quit his job and raise their baby. Becca is the typical teenage daughter, the world should revolve around her. She is wanting to get her driver's license. Trying to accept the fact that her dad has moved on with is life. Bunny, the matriarch of this family. Always having the last word. Also a susie homemaker, always having cookies in the cookie jar. Still believes women belong in the home. Then you have Lucas! We should all have a Lucas in our life. Lucas is a client of Harper's, who becomes much more to her and Becca. Loved, how he stepped up for Becca to help her get her driving license. This is a story that will having you laughing out loud and feeling the emotions of this multi generational family. So much of story I could identify with having my own sister and daughter. I highly recommend this story to all mothers and daughters!!

Sisters Like Us is a well-written, emotional, and thought-provoking read. It’s a story about friendship, acceptance, love, and letting go. Bunny is the matriarch of the Bloom family. She’s not a very nice person. Bunny is stuck in the 1950s and believes her daughters should be too. Harper and Stacy, both have emotional and confidence issues because of their mother’s harsh words. Although Bunny tried to mend her ways, she never won me over. Harper is a divorced, single mother. She’s losing the close relationship that she’s always cherished with her daughter, due to the long hours, she devotes to her business. Although Becca is likable, she’s also a typical teenager, self-centered and moody. Harper is a people pleaser and tries to be perfect. But, because of her mother’s constant criticism, she always feels inadequate. When Harper finally decides to hire, Dean, a business assistant, she starts to feel a little more focused and relaxed. Dean is my favorite character. He’s quirky, funny, supportive, and fiercely protective of Harper. He even stood up to Harper’s imposing detective friend, Lucus. Stacey is a brilliant scientist and happily married. She’s also afraid to tell her mother that she’s pregnant. Bunny has drilled into Stacey’s head that she wasn’t normal because Stacey would rather work in a lab than at home. And, now that Stacey is pregnant she’s afraid that she’ll prove her mother right. Stacey worries that she won’t be able to bond with her daughter. There are many characters intermingling in this book, adding depth, and intrigue to the novel. I was utterly absorbed in their stories. Sisters Like Us put me on an emotional roller coaster from the first page until the last. This book is heartwarming, compelling and entertaining. I loved every page of this novel and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys women’s fiction. Thank you, Harlequin and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

Another really good addition to your Susan Mallery library! Two sisters, Stacey and Harper. Stacey is married to a terrific guy, has a brilliant career and is pregnant but worried she won't be a good mother because she doesn't feel any connection to the baby. Harper, divorced, raising a teenage daughter and trying to build a business as a virtual assistant. The sisters share a great relationship and a mother who believes everything is about her. This is a fun journey as the sisters deal with the angst in their lives as well as their relationship(s) with their mother.
  • A Great story about relationships in a fun setting.

Sisters Like Us is a story about relationships in a woman’s life. Heather and Stacey are sisters and the main characters. They couldn’t be more different. Heather is divorced and raising a teenage daughter. She has started a virtual assistant business to support herself and her daughter Becca. Stacey is a brilliant scientist that is married to a great guy and she is expecting her first child. Heather has to learn how to make her business profitable and how to balance work and the needs of a teenage daughter. Stacey is scared that she won’t be a good mom because she is not like her sister. Both sisters have to deal with their mom, Bunny who is critical and disapproving of their choices. All the characters in the book are interesting, and though you may like some more than others the combination makes an interesting story. Susan Mallory has another great story that is enjoyable and engaging. I highly recommend it!

Sisters Like Us is the 4th book in the Mischief Bay series but can be read as a stand alone. I loved Sisters Like Us - the author does such a fantastic job of creating stories that are so real to every day life. I love how she writes about women & all the things in our life that make us who we are. And this story includes animals which makes it even better in my eyes. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
