Description

Is there an equation for the perfect hookup? Turns out it’s a lot more complicated than one plus one. . . .

Sophie: Numbers are my comfort zone, which explains why my sex life is a big fat zero. Then again, if I’m smart enough to earn a PhD, why can’t I calculate a way to get a guy into bed, just to see what all the fuss is about? With my prima donna sister, Bella, getting married in Maine, I figure her wedding is the perfect opportunity for my little experiment. And Cain Jordan seems hot enough—he’s certainly drunk enough—to show me what I’ve been missing. Judging by the body of evidence, it’s a lot. . . .

Cain: Being stuck in the same town as my lying SOB twin brother, Christian—who may or may not be the father of the son I’m not allowed to see—is a hell of a reason to drink myself silly after the lobster boat docks each day. Any port in a storm . . . But Sophie’s different. She doesn’t play around. And she’s becoming a habit I don’t want to break. Because the smartest woman I’ve ever met is also the sexiest—and the only one who makes me want to change.

  • Not your average heroine

When I first started reading the Hook UP I wasn’t too sure about it. Sophie intrigued me and Cain seemed like an SOB….but I kept reading and before I knew it my misgivings were replaced with late nights reading their story. Erin has a way of writing that really appeals to me. Her heroines are relatable and her hero’s are well, they get your imagination going let’s say…. definitely worth your time and money to get this one.
  • Real problems

This book is great because even though the hero is flawed he is still lovable. In the romantic genre it is easy to fall in love with a billionaire but to fall for a working class alcoholic with issues is hard and made me like the characters more for not being perfect
  • Bad boy and the nerd

Sophie is a sweet nerd of a girl who has spent her life studying. Cain is a bad boy with no direction in life and a drinking problem to boot. This is a little painful at times to watch them both navigate through life BUT real life can be painful as well! Erin McCarthy does an amazing job of making her characters seem so real while we fall in love along with them! A great read!
  • Honest, smart, and witty female character

In the Hookup we have two sisters: one a social genius and the other a social failure. Sophie is a smart intelligent brunette who lacks the social skills to flirt with men hence why she is single. Bella is beautiful and easily attracts men yet she’s engaged, planning her wedding. Bella tries to give Sophie pointers on how to flirt with men but her brain gets in the way making her conversations awkward. Most hookups have a set of rules to abide by, but Sophie follows by her own rules. She’s brutally honest, straightforward, and in a class of her own. Sophie’s character felt like a freak most of the time due to her smart logical brain that spewed intellectual terminology from her mouth. Sophie’s character expressed herself well telling Cain exactly what she wanted. I like strong female characters who don’t shy away from what they want. When I saw the title of this book I thought not another hookup story. But then I remembered who wrote this book and I removed any prejudgements and doubts immediately. Erin is a seasoned writer. Sure took a cliche topic such as hooking up with a stranger for sex and did several things differently. First, she made me fall in love instantly with these characters. Second, she added layers to the story so it was more than hooking up for sex. Lastly, she created Sophie’s character who is smart, honest, and blunt. Even with her inexperience’s with guys she made up for in her wits. The dialogue is boisterous and witty. I’m liking it much more than I thought I would. This story grabbed me from the beginning even with its cliche storyline. Erin surprised me at every corner with Sophie’s character. This was a fun and sexy book. I laughed so many times at the literal comments coming out of Sophie’s mouth. I usually struggle with instant love stories, but these characters work well together. The banter between them flows smoothly. Erin is a writing genius. Cain is the bad boy type with a drinking problem. He buries his pain in alcohol. He’s the hookup guy. He had some obstacles to overcome, yet I still enjoyed the way he made sure to take care of Sophie’s needs. I like when authors create obstacles and problems. I look forward to the way they resolve these issues. The Hookup is the first book in the Jordan brother series. This is a standalone book about Cain Jordan. This story had alternating points of view. Although, the chapters didn’t identify the change, yet it was delivered smoothly.

I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. Erin McCarthy has written a book that has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a four star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic. Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

Erin McCarthy's new series The Jordan Brothers has started out with a very well crafted sexy story. Neither Sophie nor Cain are your typical heroine or hero which made the story unique and compelling. I felt both characters had been well developed and were very authentic. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in this series. I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was a little surprised at how steamy this book is but I fell in love with Cain and Sophie and can’t wait to get my hands on the next book to see exactly WHAT happened between Bella and Christian!
