I am now on my fiftieth Horus Heresy novel. My honest sense is that 2/3 of them are a great deal of writing with very little motion or substance. A few of them seem to accomplish in one volume what six or seven other novels struggle with to less effect. To my mind, this is, by far, the best book in the HH saga. Russ goes from being the most one-dimensional primarch to the most nuanced, likable, admirable and complex of the lot. There is so much revealed in WOLFSBANE that I could not stop turning the pages. Even the B plot is exceptionally interesting, thoughtful, and well-written. Guy Haley has crafted a masterpiece here. The greatest compliment I can pay him is that there is not one LAZY paragraph in the entire novel, nor a superfluous one. It's just a great read.

Thank you thank you!! Citing the actual number left of remaining Space Wolves was a rare treat. It’s been too long without these awesome kind of facts in recent releases. I still want to know how many White Scars actually remain on Terra to fight Horus. A truly epic novel. Devoured it in full after buying it. Rich dialog between the primarchs, Malcador and Valdor. Rich historical facts, detailed background and awesome action scenes.
  • A true epic!

This story does The Rout and their primarch justice! The story bounces chiefly between three characters, Bjorn (who becomes even more famous in the future), a younger, more headstrong Belisarius Cawl(directly involved with reviving Roboute Guilliman), and of course Leman Russ. As the picture implies, the battle between Horus and Russ’s Legions does NOT disappoint.
