Description

The second installment in the New York Times bestselling series "made for fans of Victoria Aveyard and Sabaa Tahir" (Bustle), Lady Smoke is an epic new fantasy about a throne cruelly stolen and a girl who must fight to take it back for her people.

The Kaiser murdered Theodosia's mother, the Fire Queen, when Theo was only six. He took Theo's country and kept her prisoner, crowning her Ash Princess--a pet to toy with and humiliate for ten long years. That era has ended. The Kaiser thought his prisoner weak and defenseless. He didn't realize that a sharp mind is the deadliest weapon.

Theo no longer wears a crown of ashes. She has taken back her rightful title, and a hostage--Prinz Soren. But her people remain enslaved under the Kaiser's rule, and now she is thousands of miles away from them and her throne.

To get them back, she will need an army. Only, securing an army means she must trust her aunt, the dreaded pirate Dragonsbane. And according to Dragonsbane, an army can only be produced if Theo takes a husband. Something an Astrean Queen has never done.

Theo knows that freedom comes at a price, but she is determined to find a way to save her country without losing herself.

Praise for the Ash Princess Series:

"A darkly enchanting page-turner you won't be able to put down."--Bustle

"A smart, feminist twist on a traditional tale of a fallen heroine, with plenty of court intrigue, love, and lies to sweeten the deal. Good luck putting this one down." --Virginia Boecker, author of The Witch Hunter series

"This searing page-turner is a compelling examination of the complexities of both evil and resistance."--Sarah Porter, author of Vassa in the Night

"A dark and spellbinding epic." --Sara Holland, New York Times bestselling author of Everless

"A rebel queen fans the sparks of revolution...[and] Theo's first-person narration remains enthralling with emotional immediacy...[while] packed to the brim with intrigue and the promise."-Kirkus Reviews

The author really wants you to dislike Theodosia. She’s whiny, selfish, and most of all a complete jerk. I can’t stand her.

Just leaving this review to say DO NOT READ THE OTHER REVIEWS. Some idiot decided to reveal a major plot twist in their review which ruined the entire second book for me. Do yourself a favor and don’t read past this one.

This was a GREAT sequel to the Ash Princess. I loved how during the whole book you expect the main character to kill the Kaiser, and it ends up being Cress, whom everyone thought was weak and only cared about being Kaiserin. Incredible plot twist! Great author, and i also loved the conclusion💕

After reading the first book I expected a lot from the second book and the author. Although the writing isn’t the best in my opinion to keep me captured the story line and plot kept me intrigued. It started going down hill when I realized that the main character isn’t someone I’m rooting for. I expected her to become a strong female leader after all she had gone through in the first book but she isn’t and I suppose it’s to be expected of a 16 year old queen with no country or people but I expected her to be tougher and not let anyone take her for granted. I accepted her as she was though but where the author really lost me as a fan was the plot twist where the main character wasn’t the one who ended up killing the King. This was a huge mistake in my opinion and killed the whole story for me. Really disappointed. I can see where the story is leading but overall the main character is one of the weakest and simple minded I have ever read and the story line could have been one of the greatest. Not to mention to way she came into her powers was the biggest anticlimactic thing in the whole book. Could have been great. Never reading another book by this author again.
