In development as a major motion picture

Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by.

Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job. She delights in donning her crisp uniform each morning, stocking her cart with miniature soaps and bottles, and returning guest rooms at the Regency Grand Hotel to a state of perfection.

But Molly’s orderly life is upended the day she enters the suite of the infamous and wealthy Charles Black, only to find it in a state of disarray and Mr. Black himself dead in his bed. Before she knows what’s happening, Molly’s unusual demeanor has the police targeting her as their lead suspect. She quickly finds herself caught in a web of deception, one she has no idea how to untangle. Fortunately for Molly, friends she never knew she had unite with her in a search for clues to what really happened to Mr. Black—but will they be able to find the real killer before it’s too late?

A Clue-like, locked-room mystery and a heartwarming journey of the spirit, The Maid explores what it means to be the same as everyone else and yet entirely different—and reveals that all mysteries can be solved through connection to the human heart.

  • Not my favorite novel

This book was not my favorite - extremely predictable plot and long monologues that left the reader pushing through to get to the next section. I will not be reading the second book in the series, this certainly wasn’t the book for me however it may be for someone who is interested in an easily-solved mystery novel.

A good story line with great life teachings, but otherwise average prose. An easy read when that’s all you want.

It’s a cozy thriller. I love Molly the maid. I resonate with her character for I too lack expertise on social skills and can be very awkward myself. I have also worked in places where I was seen as less and was constantly a subject of gossip and laughter because I am “not normal.” This book made me feel like I’m not alone. Thank you Nita Prose.

The writer drew you into the life of the character by the way she wrote the feelings of Molly and her life experiences including her love of Gran and all that Gran taught her if life and people and how to deal with how ugly when it’s in your face. Loved this first series of Molly!
  • Quite a surprise

I downloaded this book to read on a 23 day cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Rome. Notoriously bad wifi onboard makes this possible. I was captivated by Molly’s character. As a former special education teacher I have taught many Mollys over the years. Their minds are steel traps of facts with so much potential. They are often pushed aside and marginalized in our society. These autistic children often go u diagnosed and they experience pain through bully or just not being seen or heard. Molly’s story, while in some ways disturbing, makes us see the resilience of character and spirit. Great read!

Charming story of a young hotel maid with asperger’s syndrome who witnesses a murder and is then accused of committing it. A fun read
