Description

Family secrets and murder converge in this captivating and suspenseful romance from New York Times bestselling author Linda Howard.

Some secrets need to be told...

Still reeling from her mother's recent death, Karen Whitlaw is stunned when she receives a package containing a mysterious notebook from her estranged father, whom she has barely seen since his return from the Vietnam War decades ago. Then, a shocking phone call: Karen's father has been murdered on the gritty streets of New Orleans.

Even if they lead to murder....

For homicide detective Marc Chastain, something about the case of a murdered homeless man just doesn't add up--especially after he meets the victim's daughter. Far from the cold woman he expected, Karen Whitlaw is warm and passionate. She is also in serious danger. A string of "accidents" have shaken Karen to the core, and forced her into the protective embrace of the charming detective she vowed to resist. Together they unravel a disturbing story of politics, power, and murder—and face a killer who will stop at nothing to get his hands on her father's secrets.

There was something endearing about the details in this book... The story was suspenseful, and well written. It was originally copyrighted in 1998, before cell phones, the internet as we know it, relationship roles a bit more “old-school” when compared to today, and air travel before 9/11. Anytime a book is written, invariably, there will be elements that will date the story in some way. But if the story itself can survive those elements, the nuggets of wisdom and observations timeless, the quality makes it worth the read. This book does that. Enjoy!

Howard did it again. The true sign of a well written book is how fast you blow through it. This one was impossible to put down.

I've been a fan of Ms. Howard's books for a long time I have a lot of her books in paperback and now trying to get them in e-books. There are so many that are great it's hard to say which one is the best. This book is sad for the lose of parents to senseless murder. But the love story and beautiful New Orlenes not sure if spelling makes it a great book. Thank you for being a great writer.

Good read I think the sex scenes could have been a tad more detailed but still got the job done. Enjoyed the characters and they make you laugh. If you read this book you must also buy all the queens men if you want more of the Medina character which I fell in love with.

I was so excited when I saw this "new" book published Aug, 2011. After I downloaded the sample, I thought the title looked familiar. I looked in my bookcase, and I own it, published in 1998! Why is IBooks putting old books out there and saying they are published at the current time! Or is the author doing this? This is not right and misleading to the public.
