The author builds a beautiful picture of the elements and environment but the development of the protagonist I thought far too shallow not as good as some of his other work

What an unexpected gem, diamond, that is. I was looking for a rough and tumble wild west book when I downloaded this book by Zane Grey. What I got instead was an utterly surprising story, vividly told, in descriptively rich language; about two people whose love is stretched to the limit. The setting is mainly in the mountains and canyons around Flagstaff, Arizona, but the story opens in New York City. Believe me when I say that I am not a reader of love stories, but I was hooked on this story from the very beginning. It becomes a real page turner right off. The last one hundred pages I could not put down. It was that engrossing.
