After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty.

Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust.

Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

Even if it means keeping a secret so big, it could destroy everything.

They need an army. They need power. They need magic. And they need the one thing only Violet can find—the truth.

But a storm is coming...and not everyone can survive its wrath.

The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

This book was so much better than Iron Flame. While I felt like the 2nd book was slow and could have been about 100 pages shorter, I felt like Onyx Storm wasn’t long enough. It was interesting, captivating, and drew me in from the first page. A lot of people have said that they were confused by the place and people names that were brought up in the first few chapters, but I think that was for a few specific reasons. 1. Violet specifically said in the first two books that she didn’t want to learn people’s names because they were just going to die. And 2. Practically every name was mentioned in the first two books, but people just forgot them while waiting for the new book. I did a re-read just prior to the release and I had no issues with names and places. Overall, a worthy and captivating third installment in the series. I cannot wait for book 4.

I waited a year for this book to be released, after I had read the first two. It did not disappoint.

I wanted to give this book a bad rating because it made me cry and had the audacity to end. 10/10

I loved all the characters. The love story was beautiful and redemptive. The dragons were snarky enough to make me laugh out loud. I hope a fourth book will be coming soon. I miss my friends.

Bad ending leaving the reader confused and wondering why all the building up of this story to just drop it and not really go anywhere.
  • That ending?!?!

I felt like the first 85% of the book was slow. It had important info but nothing that really had me on the edge of my seat like the first two books. Liked it, but was hoping for a little more umph. Then the last few chapter happen and it was so good. THEN THE LAST TWO TO THREE PAGES AND IT HAD ME STUMPED. I’m feeling annoyed, excited, anxious by this cliffhanger. I’m ready for the next book!
