Oh my god. That’s what my brain kept screaming while I read this book. That, and “Just get on with it, for f-(%$ sake!!”
The unnecessary wordiness and roundabout explanations and backwards descriptions to set up a simple scene are so distracting that one cannot enjoy the story. So many words yammering on and on and on in the most convoluted manner, all in an effort to ultimately convey a simple thought. It feels like the author is desperate to prove something to the readers - perhaps a need to convince us that they have a sophisticated level of intelligence? - but unfortunately it just comes off as arrogant. It’s almost impossible to finish reading. It’s too bad because the author is clearly talented in terms of plotting ideas and story concepts. She just misses the mark when it comes to story-telling.
