Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Debbie Macomber returns with a powerful standalone novel about a woman forced to start her life anew, embarking on the most courageous journey of all—to a place where she learns what love and trust really mean.

Shay Benson adored her younger brother, Caden, and that got her into trouble. When he owed money, Shay realized she would do anything to help him avoid the men who were threatening him, and she crossed lines she never should have crossed. Now, determined to start fresh, she finds herself in search of a place to stay and wanders into a church to escape from the cold.

Pastor Drew Douglas adored his wife. But when he lost her, it was all he could do to focus on his two beautiful kids, and his flock came in a distant third. Now, as he too is thinking about a fresh start, he walks through his sanctuary and finds Shay sitting in a pew.

The pair strike up a friendship—Drew helps Shay get back on her feet, and she reignites his sense of purpose—that, over time, turns into something deeper, something soulful, spiritual, and possibly romantic. Even Drew’s two children are taken with this woman who has brought light back into their lives. Perhaps most important, Shay learns to trust again as she, in turn, proves herself trustworthy to her adopted community.

But Caden’s return to town and a disastrous secret threaten to undo the life Shay has tried so hard to rebuild. It will take the utmost courage and faith if she and Drew hope to find healing and open their hearts to a brighter future.

Any Dream Will Do is . . . so realistic, it’s hard to believe it’s fiction through the end. Even then, it’s hard to say goodbye to these characters. This standalone novel will make you hope it becomes a Hallmark movie, or gets a sequel. It’s an inspiring, hard-to-put-down tale. . . . You need to read it.”The Free-Lance Star

Such an honest and thoughtful book about love and redemption… I raced through it. A good hearted woman steals money for her ne’er do well brother and earns a 3 year prison sentence for her rescue. Her first night out of prison the bus drop off point is next to a church and much to her own disbelief she enters. What she finds there will change her life. Shay’s tough felon exterior gives way to a gentle and caring soul who will find redemption and love. Macomber captures the complicated issues of homelessness, and incarceration with depth and compassion. I don’t rate many books a 5 but this one gets my vote…I hope others find this book as good as I did.

I chose this book because it was on the NYT bestseller list, for the life of me I cannot understand why. Boring story line with a predictable ending.

Shay Benson only wanted to take help her younger brother Caden stay out of trouble. It cost her three years of her life. When she gets a second chance, she's not really sure where to start. Pastor Drew Douglas lost his beloved wife to cancer and has been just going through the motions trying to take care of his children and his church family. They meet as they are both at desperately low points in their lives. Shay is introduced to an opportunity at the Hope Center where she learns what it means to have people who love her and care about her for the first time in her life. Shay is given a second chance at a fulfilling life. She has friends that are as close as family. She displays forgiveness over bitterness. She chooses redemption over retaliation. She teaches everyone - particularly Drew and his family - any dream will do to look forward to! I was provided an ARC by NetGalley and Random House. The opinions expressed here are completely my own.

A moving read about second chances and keeping your faith handy even when times are tough! Great characters, fun connections, lots of lessons learned, and just a general good feeling book! Shay Benson didn't have a great life, but she was on solid footing towards bettering herself when she was faced with a personal dilemma. With the path she chose, she broke trust and confidences and lost her way. Now trying to pick up the pieces, she stumbles into a church to get warm for a few minutes and meets the man that will change her life. Pastor Drew Douglas is trying to feel his way out of the despair his life became after losing his wife. His two children pull him out of his mind and make him function day after day, and he knows he needs to move forward in whatever way he can. He stumbles upon Shay in the church and offers her comfort. His kindness and the program he refers her to helps her greatly. When they touch base again and she meets and connects with his kid, they strike up a friendship and see each other on occasion ... eventually turning romantic!

This is a beautifully told story of mistakes, loss, redemption, healing, faith and love. It's a Debbie Macomber book so we know the writing and characters are top notch but the emotions this story evoke are definitely kicked up a notch. Shay Benson has made mistakes and paid the price in prison. On the day of her release with no were to go she stumbles into a little church. This one act will have a huge impact on her life. Pastor Drew Douglas has been going through the motions of living since the death of his wife. His two children need him to be better and he wants to be better but moving forward is hard. Then a woman enters his church who while dealing with her own life issues shows him the way to healing and moving forward. This story is impactful and simply not to be missed!
