After five years of covering seedy Eastern European politics, Laura Thorsen returns to Canada, only to run afoul of the mob. When they try to kill her before she can publish her explosive exposé, she flees to her secluded childhood home in the Yukon. Little does she know that her estranged mother is being haunted, too—by the ghosts of her dead husband and a lover who disappeared 34 years ago.
Their nearest neighbor, Mack Hawkins, is pulled into the fray when the mobsters track Laura down. Despite her best efforts to keep Mack out of danger, he insists on his own brand of personal protection. But in this race against time, will Laura be able to evade those who want her dead, keep them away from her mother and Mack, and mend her relationship with her mother before it's too late?
