  • Fantastic world building

I would love to see more from this amazing universe. It’s a joy to read something that accurately describes what actually happens when two utterly different cultures meet; how translation of language isn’t enough, and how knowledge of the culture is a must to understand how to properly translate. Amazing utterly alien aliens. Kind too. No war or monsters.
  • Interesting world building!

I loved - and devoured - this story about an alien who left his people, but was drawn into the first murder investigation ever in the history of his people. The way it unfolded was beautifully done, and this may be my favorite Gail Carriger book to date. Hoping for MORE in this series for sure!

I love Gail Carriger’s Victorian-era books so much that I was a bit hesitant to try something set in the future. But this was delightful. The characters were well drawn, and the alien species well fleshed out. I did find the comparison/metaphor for LGBTQ+ issues in the current day to be a bit heavy-handed, and I figured out the mystery very early. But the romance and relationships in general were great, and I’m very much looking forward to finding out more about the galoi. I hope to see the characters back in another book.
