THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

ONE OF THE NEW YORK TIMES BEST THRILLERS OF THE YEAR

“I loved this book. It gave me the same waves of happiness I get from curling up with a classic Christie...The alternating points of view keep you guessing, and guessing wrong.” — Alex Michaelides, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Patient

"Evok[es] the great Agatha Christie classics…Pay close attention to seemingly throwaway details about the characters’ pasts. They are all clues.” -- New York Times Book Review

A wedding celebration turns dark and deadly in this deliciously wicked and atmospheric thriller reminiscent of Agatha Christie from the New York Times bestselling author of The Hunting Party.

The bride – The plus one – The best man – The wedding planner  – The bridesmaid – The body

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.

And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

Reviews

  • Too many twists.

I liked the first half of the book, until the initial twist, then they just kept coming and and coming. It became more and more ridiculous and my enjoyment waned.

Weak plot, predictable that things would unravel for the couple in the end …

This book kept me hanging onto every word. I was not expecting it to end the way it did! I don’t normally love a multi-narrative book, but Guest List kept me intrigued, and made the mystery all that more intriguing. It took me a bit to get through the first few chapters because I was reading it in between mom duties, but once I started reading it on our plane ride to our summer vacation, I couldn’t put it down! I’d read it at the pool, and at the beach. I was heartbroken when I left my hard copy in our hotel room, so I ran to the Apple book store to buy the virtual copy so I could finish it on the plane ride home. Now I can’t wait to buy and read more from Lucy Foley!
  • Great story, lots of buildup

The different POVs and timelines were confusing at first and I didn’t really see a point. Their inner thoughts felt very repetitive at times. But towards the end jumping all around did help build the suspense and kept me reading. I wish there was more of a resolution for each character. After getting to know them so well, it felt unfinished to only have one character really get an ending. Overall, I liked it, but not something I have to re-read.
  • Great characters

What a story! This author does a fabulous job of describing each character in the story. It is a good story too. I can’t give anything away.

Interesting premise, decent execution. I didn’t love that we switched so many times between POV’s but that’s the trend with books like these. I thought the ending wasn’t as much of a twist as I’d like, but I was still excited to pick this up most days.
