I truly believe this book has changed my life. There are so many jaw dropping moments for me while reading, it’s inevitable not to move towards a more authentic self.

This book is deeply damaging, basically puts all the fault on you; this is a book written by a crazy lady a la Thatcher style. Forgets about systems of oppression. She is a guard for white supremacy, do not recommend.

Great book. Opened my eyes. Made me think within & understand why parents act the way they do. Don’t know the author but she feels like a friend now.

  • An honest review

Insightful on subjects like ego, everyday family drama (no real trauma) and enmeshment. Overall, there’s nothing I found in this book to be a revelation. Much of it has been written about time & again. The author seems to go-on about herself, especially in the beginning. She all but credits herself for inventing holistic therapy, which is weird, because it has been around for quite some time. The existence of Instagram, is the new element here. The ability to be incredibly public about one’s personal journey, should one choose to do so. “The work” is generally addressing your inner child through journaling. I would definitely go down that path with a therapist as well. In real life. Not just a book. I think the book will be helpful to anyone who decides to. So glad they updated with a new narrator before I finished the audiobook. The original narrator often took an incredibly pitiful & defeated tone, which was unbearably cring-ey. I found the last 2 chapters to be most uplifting.
