Description

New York Times bestseller Lisa Kleypas returns with an enthralling and steamy romance between a Scot with a mysterious past and strong-willed lady looking for adventure—and love.

“The devil never tries to make people do the wrong thing by scaring them. He does it by tempting them.”

Lady Merritt Sterling, a strong-willed beauty who runs a shipping company, knows London society is dying to catch her in a scandal. So far, she’s been too smart to provide them with one. But then she meets Keir MacRae, a rough-and-rugged Scottish whisky distiller, and all her sensible plans vanish like smoke. They couldn’t be more different, but their attraction is powerful, raw and irresistible.

From the moment Keir MacRae arrives in London, he has two goals. One: don’t fall in love with the dazzling Lady Merritt Sterling. Two: avoid being killed.

So far, neither of those is going well.

Keir doesn’t know why someone wants him dead until fate reveals the secret of his mysterious past. His world is thrown into upheaval, and the only one he trusts is Merritt.

Their passion blazes with an intensity Merritt has never known before, making her long for the one thing she can’t have from Keir MacRae: forever. As danger draws closer, she’ll do whatever it takes to save the man she loves . . . even knowing he might be the devil in disguise.

Always great to catch up with characters from previous series. I love that both these characters immediately create a caring bond born of respect, and that it’s just external circumstances that they need to overcome, neither of them are hard hearted or damaged. Keir and Merrit deserve one another! A great, fun adventure.

It’s a very enjoyable read. No unnecessary complications the obstacles are not unrealistic and Merritt us just the perfect character.

<<>> I feel like this books had no story line. The whole book unfolds at Heron’s Point. In two bedrooms. I feel like this and her previous two books are written so differently. Things that should have been included in the story: The scene when Merritt finds out she’s indeed pregnant and can conceive. Maybe a little more action, because she literally builds up so much on a strong female character but she never delivers. What was the point on Merritt going to Scotland to protect him and being the one that knew how to shoot. There should have been more development between Sebastian and Keir. The love story just literally fell like an apple from a tree there was no development, no tension, no healthy dose of drama... it was a bland love story. I felt more excitement in every scene with St. Vincent more than the actual hero and heroine. Definitely not her best at all. Hoping it gets better
  • She never disappoints.

I read her over and over. I don’t do this with all books just special ones which include all of Lisa Kleypas’. This particular book is so sweet and touching. It’s also exciting and mysterious. It brings back characters I love from other books. It’s like getting to visit with old friends.
  • Not my favorite Kleypas

First, let me note that Lisa Kleypas is a fabulous author and among my favorites. Pros: -Decent steamy scenes. (I think this is the first Kleypas I’ve read with any butt play?) -It was good to see Sebastian back Cons: -At times this felt like a dictionary of Scottish slang terms. Just because outlander is hot right now doesn’t make everything Scottish super sexy -the characters had instant mutual attraction and it felt like that part of the storyline was too easy Overall, I felt there was too little tension in this plot. It was more a reunion of Kleypas’ past characters, who are great, but all of the cameos detracted from the story line in my opinion. I was never really worried it wouldn’t work out. The storyline about McRae being Sebastian’s son also seemed to lack a little backstory or drama.

Strong lead characters that make you really like them, good-moving plot, all around delightful. It’s one of my more favorite of LK’s works from the last few years.
