A good old whodunnit

Psychologist Maddie Swallows, divorced with two teenagers, packs up the kids and moves back to her small New Mexico hometown. When her first social outing, a dinner party with all the town’s bigwigs, serves murder for the first course, Maddie is drawn into a vortex of long-held town secrets as she searches for the killer. Great characters, snappy dialogue and a neat plot make this novel a fun read!

Good story, lots of things going on to keep your interest but easy to follow. Thought it had a good ending.

When Maddie Swallows moves back to her hometown, she just wants to get her psychiatrist practice started with her best friend Trish and distance herself from her ex husband. At the same time, she basically goes into seclusion to avoid old friends and new questions. Then Trish accepts an invite to a dinner party on her behalf and all other interests fade into the background when one of the guests eats something that disagrees with them. After meeting the new sheriff, Maddie decides to help out by using her psychiatrist skills to interview suspects. Her children and mother offer their assistance to the amateur sleuth. But are they putting themselves in danger? Will the murders stop at one body? Or does their agenda require more? The story was kind of amusing though it felt like the sheriff would have responded differently to the ongoing interference. It also felt like someone would have commented on one of the last minute details about the attendees much sooner.

Once the introduction and rising action were established, the book really picked up and was more suspenseful as it progressed. The author does a great job telling the story and once all the facts are laid out, its apparent what has to happen! Can’t wait to read the next books in this series.

I totally loved this book. It was an easy read and all the details were very exciting!

The book was fabulous couldn’t put it down. You will enjoy it immensely.

Dead Before Dinner by Kat Bellemore is a throughly charming cozy story. The characters are are interesting and entertaining. There are twists and turns after the murder and some surprises during the investigation. Maddie’s family involvement adds to the depth and richness to the story.
