Description

Before E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey and Sylvia Day's Bared to You, there was Anne Rice’s New York Times best seller The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty.

In the traditional folktale of "Sleeping Beauty," the spell cast upon the lovely young princess and everyone in her castle can only be broken by the kiss of a Prince. It is an ancient story, one that originally emerged from and still deeply disturbs the mind's unconscious. In the first book of the trilogy, Anne Rice (author of Beauty's Kingdom), writing as A.N. Roquelaure, retells the Beauty story and probes the unspoken implications of this lush, suggestive tale by exploring its undeniable connection to sexual desire. Here the Prince awakens Beauty, not with a kiss, but with sexual initiation. His reward for ending the hundred years of enchantment is Beauty's complete and total enslavement to him . . . as Anne Rice explores the world of erotic yearning and fantasy in a classic that becomes, with her skillful pen, a compelling experience. Readers of Fifty Shades of Grey will indulge in Rice’s deft storytelling and imaginative eroticism, a sure-to-be classic for years to come.
Praise for The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty:

"Articulate, baroque, and fashionably pornographic." —Playboy
"Something very special . . . at once so light and yet so haunting." —The Advocate

I didn’t realize the age of the character. Made me incredible uncomfortable and feels so wrong.

Gross. I liked the movie “Interview with a Vampire” and thought because it was by the same author I’d be getting a cool take on a fairytale- not a gross extremist porn novel where the main character is only 15!! I was dumb to buy without looking into what it was about, I just never imagined it would be about this! Don’t buy and save your money. I’m shocked this came from the same author.

Not worth it at all, it sick and badly written.
  • I’d give -1000000 if I could. Raping kids is not ok, even in a book.

Raping a child of 15 is not ok... it doesn’t matter how old the rapist is or how the victim responds after. Romanticizing this is sick. Get help Ann, you are what’s wrong with our world.

Stopped reading within the 1st 50 pages. Not into a child being rapes and used and abused as a love slave. Love Anne Rice but could not continue reading it.
  • Disappointed after the first few pages.

No buildup at all. Couldn’t feel a thing for the first 10 pages. I am glad she feels this is sexually liberating, but it honestly just feels like your usual porn script, fantasy style. No mystery or anything. Really disappointed, since this came from such a famous author.
  • Rape in the very first scene.

This book begins with the rape of a minor sleeping beauty. There is no consent. This is not a representation of BDSM and the author should be ashamed of herself.
