Description

A funny, honest, and empathetic resource for the novice stepmother on maintaining sanity, solving hair-raising identity issues, regaining a sense of humor, and surviving what you did for love....

What happens when the honeymoon comes to a screeching halt and you're faced with a houseful of rambunctious children, an ever-present ex-wife, and a new husband trying to balance the chaos?

This helpful guide includes advice on:

• The kids: Adjusting to suspicion, resentment, and biological-parent loyalties
• The ex-wife: Living calmly alongside her, whether she's a psycho or the perfect mother
• The holidays: Accommodating old family traditions and developing new ones
• The sex: Keeping love alive through the kids' bed-wettings and nightmares
• The finances: Building safety nets and avoiding financial disasters
• The urge to be evil: Accepting it, and then stopping yourself from saying something you'll regret—to him, the kids, or her
• Plus an invaluable list of resources, websites, publications, and organizations specifically for the new stepmother

I like the book! It made me realize that everything I am feeling is natural and what every other step mom out there is feeling! I’m not crazy for being “selfish” for self needs! Good read! Definitely recommend to step moms or even step moms to be!
  • Witty and straight to the point

Seriously. Even if you’re just seriously dating a man with children, and planning on marrying him. I wish I would’ve read this when I first came into my future step kids life!

After our first long weekend away as a "family" I broke down in tears when my very serious boyfriend took his son back to his mothers at the end of our trip. I was exhausted, beat down and just plain devastated. We had a great weekend but by the end I was emotionally exhausted. I decided to do some research on step-motherhood and stumbled across this book by chance. Oh that was no chance... I'm not sure where I'd be if I hadn't found this book. I might have been single once again. This book saved me, made me realize I wasn't crazy. Thank you!!! It's opened my eyes to the other side; what my spouse is going through, what his ex wife is going through and allowing me to know what I'm feeling is normal. I will most definitely be suggesting this book to anyone I know who is at any part of step-motherhood.
