Ms. Goodwin captures the full scope of the humanity and constructive effect on history of these two American goliaths. She brings you into afternoon cocktail parties and discussions which shaped FDR’s presidency. You are fully there for this monumental ride of history. Like all of her work her historical figures are provided full depth of humanity which enables the reader to fully understand their motives and emotions.

This is probably among the top 10 books I read during my entire life!!! Really well written and makes you feel like you are standing there as an observant of life in the White House during WWII.

DKG has such a sense of story. I read Bully Pulpit and was inspired to read presidential biographies through to Ronald Reagan. I was so pleased that my FDR bio was another Kearns-Goodwin book. You will feel a sense of being in the White House and can almost heard the laughter and the clinking of ice cubes in drink tumblers. Not only is the time documented but a feel for attitudes, prejudices and hope comes from each page. Enjoy No Ordinary Time.

This book was able to help a baby boomer gain a clarity of understanding and discovery of little known, but important events that lead to WWII, carried us through the war and shaped the way we behaved after the armistice. No school-based history course could contain the volumes of information and discussions that were presented in this volume. I yearned for more reading time until I reached the conclusion.
