Having read most of Burroughs' other books, I found this one to leave me wanting for more. More substance, more laughs, more pages. Seriously, more pages. The last 10 were advertisements for his other books. Best phrase in the entire book: "multiple cat owner".

Stick with it! It was a slow start as I wondered why I was spending time letting Augusten Burroughs tell me how to run my life. His wonderful literary style kept me interested until I eventually came to the conclusion that, yes! This man has much to say and it is worth your while to listen up.

I couldn't even finish half this book. Not funny at all, nothing like his other books.
  • Mindful, mature, magnificent

Augusten Burroughs has come of age. What does that platitude signify? He's now added maturity, perspective and balance to his writing skillbase => great book! As with some other readers, when i embarked on the book, I was taken aback by what first hit me as a "preachy" undertone. However, that didn't last long. Within the first 15-20 minutes, my reactions morphed into smiles, head nods and sighs -- more typical and beloved signs of reading Augusten.

I have read a fair amount of books on the subject and this one gets straight to the heart of it. It may seem too simple to some. I believe we overcomplicate things. Also, I am so thankful for Augusten's point of view on the necessity of reliving the past. There is none! Well written. In-your-face at times. Well-intended.

260 digital pages, that made me think, made me laugh, made me cry. Made a true impression on me. Augusten's chapters on death were so strong, so true that I had to put the iPad down and reflect very deeply. I thank my higher power for having directed me here.

I love how he writes and is able to transport you to that exact event that is happening! I have read every single book and I hope this is not his last. I have re-read his books and they never get old.

This is by far the best book I have ever read besides for one more day by Mitch Albom. It's funny and witty and will definitely make you cry. Definitely would recommend this to anyone going through a rough patch in their life. MUST READ!
  • Horrible...

Ever wonder what happens when a once heart warming, funny and oddly brilliant author hits the crack pipe a bit too hard and turns into his alleged mother (vis a vie behavior)? Well, count your blessings.. In a horrid display of poor judgement and ill conceived "humor" Augesten, at best is phoning it in with this trash. Gone are the days of liking him to authors like David Sedaris.. This book is awful.. Skip it!
