The Gansett Island Series, Book 1

Maddie Chester is determined to leave her hometown of Gansett Island, a place that has brought her only bad memories and ugly rumors. Then she’s knocked off her bike on the way to her housekeeping job at McCarthy’s Resort Hotel by Gansett’s “favorite son,” Mac McCarthy. He’s back in town to help his father with preparations to sell the family resort and has no intention of staying long. When Mac accidentally sends Maddie flying over the handlebars, badly injuring her, he moves in to nurse her back to health and help care for her young son. He soon realizes his plans for a hit-and-run visit to the island are in serious jeopardy, and he just may be “maid” for love.

So unrealistic. Not happening in real life but it’s a great read. I enjoyed it.

  • Cheesy and unrealistic

Way too cheesy and weird. The characters have unbelievable personalities, especially Mac. No man is 100% perfect like that. He goes from playboy who can’t settle down to a doting (kind of creepily obsessive) boyfriend and dad of the year to a baby that isn’t his? Within like 24 hours? Yeah, okay. And don’t get me started on Maddie. She’s immature and makes irrational decisions that just don’t seem realistic. Her biggest problem in life is her huge boobs and being so attractive every guy wants her? Wow, tragic. Even the “conflict” was just so over the top. Who in their right mind would get that upset over some letters in the paper?? She “can’t be with someone who would do that” to her? Childish and not at all how adults act in real life. Not to mention, that we’re supposed to believe that every person, every grown adult, in this town treated Maddie badly because of a high school rumor? And the second those letters appear in the paper saying it was all untrue, they all start being super friendly to her overnight? The dialogue is over the top, the events and conflicts and “life problems” of the characters are eye rolling-ly dumb, the characters are unbelievable and hard to connect with. If you’re into extremely cheesy and unrealistic romances, this is the book for you, I suppose.

Maddy is a single mother who has suffered from an undeserved bad rep for years. When Mac McCarthy literally runs into her, she has no idea just how her life will change. Mac is at a little bit of a crossroads in his life. When he knocks Maddie off her bike, seriously injuring her, he feels compelled to do whatever’s necessary to make it up to her and help her out. He discovers that Maddie and her son Thomas just may have way more to offer him than he thought he had to offer them.

This was a great story with lots of humor. A sweet baby and funny family and friends gave the story life and love. I loved reading this story and the happy ending.
