Description

When the Bible says, “It is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong” (1 Peter 3:17), we laugh, saying, “You’ve got to be kidding.” But that is the perspective the Apostle Peter urges us to have as we navigate this life. This perspective requires you to “sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts” (1 Peter 3:15). You do so in two ways. One, by “always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15). Two, by “keep[ing] a good conscience” (1Peter 3:16). This perspective will always uphold you. The chief example Peter sets before us is that of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:18ff). We need His outlook on life. The following lessons offer explanations of 1 Peter 3:13-22 under the heading of “Perspective on Life.” Peter’s argument from verse 13 leads to the perspective of verse 17. Verses 18-22 support this perspective, and this text explores this perspective.
