I fell into the characters immediately and enjoyed the setting and plot developments. The mother midwife was very probably my favorite character, a woman of her time but she was feisty and determined to make her mark on her world despite respective roles for women of that time period. Her husband to was a great character and their family and relationships were always entertaining.

This is the kind of book that has you wishing you didn’t have to work so you could read all day. Captivating from beginning to end, even for those who don’t typically read historical fiction.

I was captured from the very beginning! I read this book in less than three weeks, devouring every chapter even as I could barely keep my eyes open. If you like a historical perspective with a strong healing female lead…buy this book and begin reading it right now! Beautifully written! Bravo 😃👍🏼

This booked hooked me from the very beginning. Loved learning about midwifery and how crucial they were in the early days of this country’s history. It’s a good reminder that most women were illiterate and how far we’ve come and blessed we are. I fell in love with the characters because of the authors beautiful descriptions…yes, especially Ephraim!
