Hope and resilience

I just loved the story, because I identify with broken people, but the biggest takeaway I got from this is how the human spirit, even when beaten down and hurting, wants to find a way to thrive and be strong. Jacob tried to wall himself away to protect his heart against further hurt, but once he realized there was something beyond more hurt to feel, he kept reaching toward that love and joy in his life. Same for Phoebe, yet she first started breaking her barriers with her daughter, but that just makes it easier for to let Jacob into her circle. I was engaged from the first page, and loved the whole romance even as it was driven by the threat of losing it all. A book you want to get lost in when you have time to read it cover to cover!
Full of passion, sweetness, acceptance and love

This book. The swoons. The scars. The feels. The healing. I loved it all. This is great story about loss, rebuilding, and continuing to find joy in living. It is brutally beautiful and has a wonderful blend of sweet, sexy, sorrowful, and uplifting. There were a lot of facing truths and past pain with only a tiny bit of angst thrown in. Jacob and Phoebe (and Annie’s) love story has all the feels - expect to laugh, cry, swoon, grit your teeth, gasp, and have your heart squeezed. Phoebe is a domestic violence survivor whose abuser is dead. She’s also a single mom to Annie, a traumatized child she adopted. She runs an online community for women that focuses on confidence. Jacob Hart is a billionaire who has never fully recovered from his traumatic and violent childhood but he’s comfortable with his found family, his small safe home and his rescued horses. Jacob’s world is shaken up and irrevocably changed when he is tasked with keeping Phoebe and Annie safe in his home now that Annie’s father has recently been released from prison. I have a soft spot for the people who are a bit uncomfortable in their skin because they don’t feel like they fit in or are worthy, like Jacob, Phoebe, and Annie. So I love when they finally see their truth and they get swoon worthy HEAs. I also loved that Annie was a wonderful and integral character in the story rather than a flimsy story prop. A lot of the movement of the story and the character growth centered around her. To get to their HEA, Jacob and Phoebe have to unpack a lot of baggage, learn to trust each other, and takes leaps of faith all the while keeping everyone safe from threats from their past. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, steam, chuckles, supportive family and friends, painful pasts, dangerous moments, and all the heart squeezing love. I loved this heart warming, swoony love story and I cannot wait to read the rest of the Harts’ stories.
