Finally read this after wanting to for years (at least a decade), and my god was it worth it. One thing I didn’t know from cultural osmosis was the open-ended conclusion to the story, something that definitely wrapped it up in perhaps the best way it could be. 10/10, would read the spooks again.

One of the earliest, shortest, and greatest American ghost stories of all time is an excellent read for children and adults of any age.

I actually feel like the movies I’ve seen carry this story quite well, but written word can build tension in a different way than a movie. I found it to be an enjoyable short story.
