  • Beauty and suspense

Beautiful prose and a gripping story of young love and the perils of marriage in Victorian England. The plot is well crafted and characters finely drawn. Anne Bronte was certainly the equal of her famous sisters. (This ebook edition unfortunately is full of typos and spell check errors!)

Get a different version. This one is shockingly full of errors which distract from what should be a nice reading experience.
  • The best book I’ve read

Anne Brontë’s style can be easily compared to that of her sisters, but, in my opinion, it is better than both Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights (this is coming from someone who is obsessed with both of those books). The mystery unfolded at the perfect pace to keep me excited and eager, and I could hardly put this book down. A must read for anyone who likes romance, mystery, or a finely woven classical tale. It stirred great emotions in me—I felt myself happy when the characters were happy, sad when they were sad, and frustrated when nothing was going right. I may have yelled at the book a few times, definitely cried, and smiled with a pleasure only the best of books can give me. This book needs more attention—as does the least remembered Brontë sister

This book has taken me through all the emotions. As in Agnes Grey, the other novel written by Anne, I have experienced feelings of happiness, hope, anger, and sadness. I really love how Anne gives a quick and surprising ending to her novels. Even if you think you know what is going to happen by the end of this novel, you can’t be quite sure of that once you reach it.
