Better When He's Brave

I cannot say enough good things about this book. It gives such a nice balance of fight, suspense,and sex appeal. I love that Jay writes such strong female roles because often women get lost in love stories. Titus and Reeve were from opposite sides of the law but when they got to know each other they weren't all that different at all. Cannot wait for the next Jay book.

I've really been anticipating Titus' story, and was not disappointed. It was good to get to know him better, and to see that he was really the good guy that he seemed in the prior books. I was surprised to end up liking Reeve quite a bit, as her prior history pre-disposed me to having some hard feelings toward her. The two of them were great together. I enjoyed having the characters from the previous books show up some, and I am already looking forward to the next book.

Jay has done it again and written another exciting book. Problem is I couldn't put it down until finished! Looking forward to the next books in both series - wish we didn't have to wait so long!

What I love about Jay Crownover is that she doesn't write typical new adult novels. Her books, and particularly this series, have realistic characters, engaging and suspenseful storylines, and scenery so vivid it feels like it's own character. Anti-heroes and the good girls who love them are Jay’s specialty. This series is my favorite of all of her books. I love how multi-layered, gritty, and realistic they are. Better When He’s Brave picks up immediately where Better When He’s Bold let off. The Point is on shaky ground and there is an unknown threat wreaking havoc and making people pay with their lives. The cast of characters we know and love is back to save their city and protect their family from a madman hell-bent on taking them all down. Having a book with Titus’s point of view is a nice contrast to the first two books, where the story is told from the wrong side of the law. Titus has dedicated his career and sacrificed most of his personal life to protect the people of the Point. Most days, it feels like a losing battle, but he feels he must save it to save himself. Reeve is an interesting character, and I had mixed feelings about her. She has faced bad situations and made bad choices because of it. Unlike most living in the Point, she has a conscience and wants to make things right--even when she knows that it will cost her her life. Reeve has intimate details about the threat attacking the Point, and Titus can’t save his city without her. I really wanted to hate Reeve for what she did to poor, sweet Dovie (in the first book), but she started to grow on me after hearing her side of the story and I came to the realization that Reeve is just a product of her (bad) environment. I also liked the fact that she is strong and confident, has nothing but fight in her, and isn’t afraid to do the hard work and get her hands dirty. Titus and Reeve seem like an unlikely pair; a saintly detective who falls for the criminal with a soft heart, but it works. And it is explosively hot when Titus finally lets go of his strict control and gives in to the temptation Reeve is providing. Although I didn’t feel as ‘warm and fuzzy’ about this couple as the previous two, the solid writing, the suspense, and the imagery kept me hooked on the story, as well as the series. I can’t wait to see what Jay has in store for the next book!
