Description

The murder of a successful advertising executive leads Detective Virgil Flowers to the unlikely scene of the crime: a peaceful and bucolic wooded resort with as many suspects as it has secrets...

While competing in a fishing tournament in a remote area of northern Minnesota, Virgil Flowers receives a call from Lucas Davenport to investigate a brutal murder at a nearby resort for women only. As Virgil begins investigating, he finds a web of connections between the people at the resort, the victim, and some local women, notably a talented and popular country singer. The more Virgil digs, the more he discovers the arrows of suspicion point in many directions, encompassing a multitude of motivations: jealousy, blackmail, greed, anger, and fear.

Then Virgil discovers something that sends his investigation reeling. This is not the first murder connected to the Eagle Nest Lodge. Nor will it be the last...

I liked the whole book, especially the music industry angle, but it was worth reading simply for the last two sentences.

Had it pegged abt 200 pages in but a good read. Funny but sensitive-like Flowers himself

I love nearly all John Sandford’s books featuring the characters Lucas and Virgil. This was just not compelling in any way. I finished it because I had purchased the hardback, but really basically boring.

Virgil's brain is scrambled by sex fantasies in this thin plot. I knew whodunit before page 50.

After reading a positive review, I decided to give this book (and the author) a try. I found the prose clumbsy, the story only somewhat interesting, and contrary to the review, lacking in humor.

I really enjoyed the Kidd series and of course I enjoyed the Prey series, (for awhile) then I got tired of Davenport having bad days when the Porsche needed a tuneup. It was like John Sanford was righting for the wealthy one percent. Now with the Virgil Flowers books I can identify with the characters again, the humor is perfect the story lines are Sanford at his all time best. Let's hope Virgil sticks around for awhile.
