Description

The first victim was found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second was murdered in her own apartment building. Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas had no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provided Eve with a long list of suspects--including her own lover, Roarke. As a woman, Eve was compelled to trust the man who shared her bed. But as a cop, it was her job to follow every lead..to explore every secret passion, no matter how dark. Or how dangerous.

I have been an ardent fan of Nora Roberts romances for years. As an author, she is an incredibly gifted storyteller. I did not think her style would carryover to murder mysteries and so hesitated to begin a Robb book. I was so very wrong! I have 46 more books to read this fall. I cannot tell you how excited I am. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Re-reading the books, and am noting the little things. Like how their relationship grew, the feelings, minor people, how major characters were introduced.... Everything is more clear because I’m not so fixated on the murder. And enjoying them like they were new. Well done!

I enjoy these characters and plot, but I knew who the killer was almost immediately, so I found it hard to believe that Eve didn't think of it far earlier. Also, the lack of breaks in going from scene to scene was at times confusing.

Another intriguing Eve and Rourke adventure. Kept me guessing with multiple possible outcomes. Good quick read.

Because of the police procedural who-dunnit qualities and story lines that included both incorrect conclusions/false trails as AND successful resolutions, this book & its predecessor (the first in this series) kept me turning pages despite the fact that Dallas & Roarke's flawless, toned bodies and their explosive sexual chemistry at times tilted the books a tad too much toward the bodice-ripping romance novels for my taste (though their complex psychological histories helped to mitigate that somewhat). Was pleasantly surprised overall. Will definitely continue with the series!

What can be said about Eve and Roarke? I am completely hooked to their abnormal yet passionate relationship and the turmoil that continuously follow their professions.
