Since their mother's death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane. One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a "research experiment" at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives. From the creator of the hit Percy Jackson series.

I love this book. You might think because it is overshadowed by the Percy Jackson series that it is not as good. NOT the case. Sure, Percy Jackson was really funny, and a good read, but this books is awesome too with a totally different vibe. I personally think Rick Riordan is brilliant for harnessing the fascinating worlds of Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and Roman mythology, and putting them into modern day. I liked how he toggled back and forth in between Sadie and Carter's voices. I liked the whole 'estranged siblings' thing. He did a great job at explaining the confusing parts of Egyptian mythology, like why suddenly Isis is Horus's mother and sister, and Osiris' sister AND husband. He also had a captivating plot and really awesome spells.
