Its a Whole New World

So I have been working my way through Laura's series. First Bayou Heat, then Masters of Seduction. After that it was the Wicked Ink Chronicles and followed by the Cavanaugh Brothers, with Wicked Firsts and Sinful Seconds in between. I finally started the Mark of the Vampire, and I am pleased to say I am glad I did. Laura has created yet another incredible world that follows its own rules. She has created a rich universe and an interesting new take on a very old theme. She did a great job of world building and introducing her audience and bringing them along for the ride, without making them feel lectured to or lost.
I fell in love with Alexander immediately. And not just Alexander, but all of the Roman brothers. I am a sucker for damaged. And Laura does that to perfection. She creates damaged but not broken, because damaged can be fix, broken is just that, broken. Sara was also an easy character to understand and quickly learn to love. She was so brave and at the same time, not a ball busting witch. Its hard to create that balance in a female character, but Laura does it well. She also has created an amazing supporting cast that I hope I get to see more of.
I read an interview with an author once that said you can take the most used formula for a story (his was for the sword/barbarian/elf/magic genre) and make it unique and different by the characters you create. The vampire mythos is popular and well used, but Laura has created compelling characters that I can't wait to get to know better. Based on her other series, I am sure this one will not disappoint.
