Assassin (Wings of Fire: Winglets #2)

Ok, this might be my favorite winglet. Deathbringer is such a complex character and I feel like (quoting Moon here a bit) if this winglet didn’t exist, we would just think that he was a goofy, glory-loving bodyguard who likes to bend the rules a bit. But after reading this, I feel so compassionate about the one time he did exactly what he was told, the result was him being orphaned and left to grieve alone. Also, half of my brain is super mad at him for possibly being the reason the war went on as long as it did, but the other half is like: BUT IF HE DIDN’T DO THAT, THESE BOOKS WOULD NEVER HAVE EXISTED IN THE FIRST PLACE! I expected the story to end when Deathbringer met Glory or at least contain him meeting Wren. But it didn’t even contain his second mission! Still, it was fun to read and I think it describes Deathbringer’s personality really well. (He’s older than I thought since, according to the book, he’s probably 12 when he meets Glory. I thought he’d be 7 or 8.)

I really like your story i am writing a fan fic on paper right now but I mijght put it on here when I finish but maybe not since I don’t have that much time- And yes I recommend Assassin it is a good short story

This will be a story in the point of view of a HiveWing during the tree wars. So I hope you enjoy 😉 Blood/ death/ trigger warning. ⚠️ Centipede stared into the the sky. The sun had just risen leaving a pink- yellow glow across the sky. She was just a helper she helped other HiveWing soldiers after a battle or during one. She has healed many HiveWings, tending to their wounds and sometimes had to put some down. Centipede was a red HiveWing with black stripes zigzagging along her wings. ‘It is almost time to leave I should go.’ She thought. Sometimes she got mind controlled to go into battle and fight. She sighed buzzing down too the battle that was taking place right next to beetle lake. The ground was soaked with dead/ injured LeafWings and HiveWings. She stopped in front of a almost completely yellow HiveWing that had a nasty gash near his shoulder. “Ok let’s fix you up.” Centipede said soothingly bandaging the wound. One of his wing was broken so he probably got knocked out from the fall. “Your not the most banged up I have seen.” She said.” Don’t worry you will be fine.” “To bad for you though!” Said an unfamiliar voice. She turned around to see three LeafWings the first one had a nasty scar across his shoulder. The second one had a fresh cut across his snout. The last one was dark green and had no cuts no scars just an chunk of her ear was gone. “I don’t want any trouble.” Centipede said calmly. “Oh!” Said the female LeafWing. “Did you hear that Evergreen? She doesn’t want any trouble.” She said to the one with the cut on his snout. They all laughed. “Then what are you doing in a battlefield?” Said the one with a scar. “Helping.” Centipede replied trying to keep the panic out of her voice. ‘What do they want with me?’ She thought. “Helping?” Said Evergreen. “You will help.. by dying!” Yelled the female LeafWing as she lunged at Centipede. She smacked Centipede in the side of her head with her tail. “Haha nice one Fern!” Said Evergreen. “After you,Forest.” Said Fern. He jabbed her in the ribs with the non-sharp side of the spear. An awful pain buzzes in her side. ‘Why are they just playing with me like I’m not a living thing?’ She thought. She dragged herself up looking up at them. Evergreen threw a spear at Centipede, slicing trough a bush. “Want to play jab jab?” Said Evergreen. “Why not?” Replied Fern. “No!” Shouted Centipede. “I am not going to be pushed around by you!” She yelled. Her heart was beating really fast she knows she can’t take all of them. ‘Then I will fight until my last breath!’ Centipede thought getting into attack position. She barred her poisonous teeth flicking her useless tail. “So be it!” Said Fern in a silky voice. Forest jumped at her and knocked her onto her back holding her head down. She kicked furiously at his underbelly. It was no use he was by far larger then Centipede. ‘Not today.’ She thought angrily. She summoned all of her strength to her legs and pushed him off. “Ugh” he grunted. Fern quicker then a striking snake jumped onto Centipede Fern slashed across her shoulder, underbelly,and snout. “That should teach you, you evil tree murderer!” She hissed. Evergreen jumped on top of Centipede. He twisted his claws into her chest. Centipede screamed with pain. Blood Flowed from her wounds. Centipede slowly dragged herself up. “I’m not a tree killer! I’m just a healer!” She confessed wincing of the pain that buzzed all over her. “You are ALL tree killers!” Forest yelled. Centipede tensed ready to defend herself. Something stabbed right through Forests neck. Fern and Evergreen screamed and flew away. While Forest fell to the ground turning it into a lake of blood. “Oh!” Centipede said surprised. It was the yellow HiveWing she helped. “Hi what is your name?” She asked. I’m Insect. He said.”Here let me help you.” He said with a wink. Centipede let him carry her back to camp to tend to her wounds. Centipede and Insect eventually had dragonets together after the war and they lived happily for a long time. So what did you think?
