We all know those series…the ones we love, that amass tale after tale. They have solid characters that we care about. Then one day we pick up the new book and realize that it’s the same ole, same ole. It’s like day old doughnuts…dry and stale. Well I am here to tell you, this is NOT the case in Evil Woman, Julie Mulhern’s fourteenth episode in the life of Ellison Russell (now Jones!). Yes, Ellison is still having conversations with Mr Coffee (thank God), but marriage seems to have triggered changes in Ellison’s relationships with family and friends…in a good way. There is growth here. And while there are bodies and bad guys, this book addresses new and evolving attitudes in the lives of the characters in this Country Club world! Julie Mulhern’s book are always more than a great “whodunit”. She handles issues of drug abuse, alcoholism, sexual inequality, spousal abuse in a factual manner without being heavy-handed. She has nailed the 1970’s…amazing, since she is way too young to have lived them! 😉. And her humor is always refreshing and spot on. I SO look forward to reading the next book…and the next…and the next, to see just where all the changes hinted at in this book take Ellison and her friends and family! It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life and (after reading Evil Woman), I’m feeling good! 5+stars!!
