Description

A “superior thriller”(Oakland Press) about a man, a dog, and a terrifying threat that could only have come from the imagination of #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz—nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read.

On his thirty-sixth birthday, Travis Cornell hikes into the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. But his path is soon blocked by a bedraggled Golden Retriever who will let him go no further into the dark woods.

That morning, Travis had been desperate to find some happiness in his lonely, seemingly cursed life. What he finds is a dog of alarming intelligence that soon leads him into a relentless storm of mankind’s darkest creation...

This is Dean Koontz’s best book ever written. It makes you laugh out loud and will bring tears to your eyes. Once you start, be prepared to keep going until the end! The thrill of having a dog that is your best friend and can talk with you is mind blowing and as he portrays in the story that this isn’t as far fetched as it sounds like.

One of my favorite books as a kid and still a wonderful read! I hope to one day tell him his words were the paint that put different hues, Coloring my imagination! Strange highways, the ODD Thomas series and many, many, other books held me rapt and in my own universe for countless hours. Thank you!

I’m a dog lover so could relate to the story better than most - my current favorite has the vocabulary and intelligence of a 3 year old and my other dog is a timid sole and just a dog. Loved the book.

You will laugh, you will cry, you will be on the floor looking up at the world from a “fur face” perspective! However if you are fortunate enough to see joy and love and loyalty above all then you just may see or feel the face of God………. or of Dog…. Trust me it’s a wonderful feeling…. I’ve read and enjoyed many of your books…. but none as much as this one…. I cannot begin to thank you enough Mr. Koontz

The love Travis bestowed on Einstein and Nora made me cry. The wordmanship in the writing held me on every sentence. Marvelous read.

At times, there was too much detail regarding scenery and commentary that was not necessary to keep the story going. But I have to still give it a 5. The themes ran deep in this book, and I cried at the end. Very few books have ever had me crying at the end. Well done!
