The Space Trilogy is a remarkable work of fantasy, demonstrating the powerful imagination of C. S. Lewis.

Perelandra

A sinister society run by his old adversaries intends to harness the ancient powers of a resurrected Merlin in their ambition to subjugate the people of Earth.

I have finally finished reading and listening all the great fictional works by C.S. Lewis and JRR Tolkien and I am now more fulfilled and at peace in my mind, heart, and soul than I have ever felt before. I began with Narnia, then with Middle Earth, and lastly but certainly not the least of these is The Space Trilogy. I have been on somewhat of a Spiritual and Intellectual journey and I have definitely gotten a whole lot “older” as Tinadril would’ve put it, enjoying the waves of adventure and wisdom as they came, arrived ,and left. All three books are incredible Sci-FI stories of space or as I call space now “The Heavens” that challenges one worldview profoundly in the most Congenial way to the reader and yet at the same time these stories take you on an adventure of a lifetime to through our solar system. The different races are incredible not just in appearances but also in the way they live and view life makes a reader reflect on their lives in the most thought provoking way conceived and the settings of the planets are the most imaginative and yet the most compelling I have ever contrived in thought. The main protagonists Elwin Ransom is the main focus in helping the reading witness and understand what God or “Mileldil” as he is called in the books, our role and purpose in all the universe is. But most importantly what to look forward at the end or should I say the “New beginning of all things” that’s yet to come. The topics of society and philosophy are brought up in profound ways and cover a multitude of issues that our current society are struggling with now such as: (Equality, War, Pride, Marriage, Truth, Morality, Fulfillment, Death, meaning, etc.) It goes so in depth into these topics that you will find yourself still pondering them afterwards when you’ve finished reading a chapter or one of the three books as I’ve certainly have. But there’s also the world that The Space Trilogy creates that will captivate anyone, it’s much like our and yet so much more, not just in a moral or ethical sense but a narrative one to since it also connects with JRR Tolkien’s stories of Middle Earth, I will not say how this is so, you will have to read the books to find out. But yet at the same time it’s connected to our actual history and The Bible’s as well. With adventures that Ransom embarks on that will keep a reader engaged the whole time and leave them in awe of what they just read. This series is absolutely incredible and I am forever thankful to God for the Inklings and the books he’s inspired them to write and in turn inspire me and my walk with God. Stories like these from the Inklings, unite and bring people together and enlightened them to new heights I did not know possible in fictional literature. These stories will live on forever until the changing and “Beginning of The New World” with the creator and his son forever and ever in “the heavens” where every story that happens from there is better than the last.

A remarkable reminder of the stark contrast within our species... illustrating selfless compassion and love in one example and deep perversion and arrogance in the next. A very entertaining read!
  • Horrific Misogynistic Drivel

I encountered these books while reading every novel that won the Hugo (these were "retro-Hugo" recipients). The religious dogma and extreme, even for the time, sexism was honestly rage inducing. The sexist views and positions sink to the level of misogyny as the series progresses. Save your time and money and let these be relegated to the dustbin of history. These are not books to be lightly set aside, but rather thrown with great force.

Loved the writing style and old word usage. Felt like I was back in that age.
